Can landing pages really increase the amount of leads and sales you receive from your website? Today’s Online Success Minute discusses landing pages and how to use them successfully. I am Janice Gentles-Jones, your Online Success Guide.
Landing pages are great for lead generation and sales pages. According to Hubspot, a leading inbound marketing company, a landing page is a website page that allows you to capture a visitor’s information through a lead form. On a landing page there’s usually no distractions, so it gives the person a chance to focus on your offer which can often lead to higher conversions. Here are a few key elements every landing page must have to help increase conversions:
- You’ll need an irresistible offer for your target audience (i.e. a free ebook, video or teleclass on top mistakes to avoid, best practices for success, etc)
- A short description describing the benefit of the offer and who can benefit from the offer (Good copywriting skills can be a great benefit here because the content needs to speak to the audience’s interest/needs. i.e. What problem are they having, why should they solve the problem now and why you are the best person to help them solve this problem)
- A graphic/image that supports the information on the page (i.e. cover of an ebook, video still image, etc)
- Clear call to action (i.e. Sign up form on the page if it’s for lead generation or Buy now buttons if it’s a sales page)
- No distractions on the page – i.e remove menu bar, widgets/modules, links to other pages and anything not related to the offer
Once you’ve created your landing page, here’s a few things you can do to promote it:
- Create call-to-action (CTA) banners that link to your landing pages and place them throughout your website – i.e. at the end of all blog posts, on your home page, side modules, etc. It’s best to use a graphical image for your CTAs as they get people’s attention faster than just plain text.
Now, be sure to test and measure your landing pages.
- Make sure you have Google Analytics installed on our website so you can track and measure your results
- Setup goals in your Google Analytics – The goals should be tied to a Thank You page (the page the person would see after they’ve successfully signed up for your free report or successfully purchased your product/service).
- Track and measure your results. If your conversions are low you’ll need to know why.
